The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has vowed to keep its exercise of remitting its working surpluses to the government, pronouncing the budget had been used to fund universities, polytechnics, and different tertiary establishments.
The spokesperson for the board, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed on Monday.
According to Benjamin, the board does no longer trust in keeping directly to surpluses and subsequently remits it to the Federal Government.
“It could be recalled that the humongous remittances are the first records of the four-decade-antique agency. The first landmark remittance was paid in 2017, and the feat was repeated in next years, consistent with its perception that policies are made to be obeyed and, at any rate, the board does now no longer believe it should keep onto cash that doesn’t belong to it,”.
He said, “In addition, it would additionally interest the general public to recognise that in no way withinside the records of tertiary institutions in Nigeria have the institutions benefited from the board’s operations as they now do.”
Benjamin similarly defined that the board could keep its exercise of remitting the constitutionally-mandated share of its operational surpluses, consistent with the extant government’s directive on remittances.
“For instance, a large chew of those surpluses are ploughed returned to the tertiary institutions via the National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award and different platforms,” He added.
